For this summer, I've rented a house in the village of Mill River, near Great Barrington, Massachusetts.
The house is small, only two bedrooms and one bath. It has no garage, not even a driveway: the car stays in the level spot in front near the street. It's not a new house, but I don't know when it was built. I think it's been added on to over the years.
Note that the back yard has a gas grill, which I'm making use of this July 4th evening. On the menu is traditional July 4th fare: a hamburger and corn on the cob. A nice zinfandel instead of beer, but hey.
The second picture above shows how the back yard slopes up from the house. There's a huge tree just out of the photo to the right, so the yard gets lots of shade.
I'll take some pictures in the house tomorrow; it's too dark now, and the house has very little in the way of lighting.
It's been hot during the days since I arrived -- highs in low to mid 90s F, mid 30s C. Cool at night, though, which is good because the house has no air conditioning.
I have tickets for 8 Tanglewood concerts, including one that Kristen and I will attend while she's here for a visit. I'm working as a volunteer for the other 7 concerts, starting Tuesday July 6 with the Emerson String Quartet at Ozawa Hall.
Having wonderful time, wish you were here, as the old postcards used to say.
[Note: If you enter "Mill River, MA" into Google Maps or any other mapping service, you'll get someplace else in Massachusetts called Mill River. You have to enter "Great Barrington, MA" and then look a bit to the southeast of that town for a tiny village called Mill River. It's near New Marlborough, MA.]
Great to have another blog to follow, Rick! Yes, wish we were there! It looks lovely. By the way, have Tinkerbell's photography skills developed amazingly, or did you set your camera to take your own photo?
